Many of us know the all too common overwhelming feeling of guilt after a week of Christmas celebrations. At a time of year when many choose to relax, wind down, eat a plate filled with turkey and all the trimmings, endless amounts of chocolates as well as plenty of glasses of prosecco, all too often a feeling of regret can take over when all we should be focusing on is spending time enjoying ourselves with our family and friends. So here are a few little things to bare in mind to put any negative thoughts post Christmas into perspective.
It’s only one week of your year
No matter what you eat, whether that be purely chocolate for a week or a mix of everything in the cupboard, it is only one week of your year and will not have a lasting impact for the rest of the year that follows, or deter any progress you made previously. The only way to make a considerable change to your diet and all the factors it affects (your weight, appearance and mentality) is through consistency. One week will have little to no impact so have your dessert and enjoy it.
A roast dinner is a perfectly balanced meal
Whether your Christmas lunch of choice is turkey, a joint of roast beef, a nut roast or anything in between, it’s a perfectly balanced meal containing protein, carbohydrates, fats and plenty of vegetables. Yes, it may be a slightly bigger than average meal, but surprise surprise, it can actually be classed as pretty healthy, and if that’s not a reason to have an extra roast potato or two, I don’t know what is.
Focus on what’s important
Finally and probably most importantly, don’t waste your time worrying about something as silly as feeling guilty for what you’re eating. Christmas is about spending time with loved ones, laughing and generally just having fun. You have all the time in the world to focus on anything else after Christmas is over, so live in the moment and enjoy.
Here’s to having a relaxing and enjoyable rest of the holiday! I hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas, have a great start to 2019 and I’ll be back with a longer post in the new year.
Happy holidays!
Abi x
