Introducing The Health Dynamic!

Hello! Welcome to The Health Dynamic, my brand new blog chatting all things music, health and lifestyle. It’s been a long time in the making (yes, finding a name with relation to both health and music took as long as you would think) and creating a blog has been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, so I am very excited to finally be able to share this with you!

So first a bit about me – I’m Abi, a 23 year old musician and student living in London. I began learning the Violin aged seven, transitioning to the Viola as my principal study instrument at fifteen, spending the last four years completing an undergraduate degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Next up for me is a Master’s degree at a different London conservatoire which I started in September, whilst aiming to develop a career as a freelance musician.

Like with any profession, music has not always been straight-forward for me. Dedicating considerable time to often intense and extensive hours of practice, rehearsals and performances can result in strain, stress and lots of possible injuries if you are not taking care of yourself properly away from the instrument. Through my own musical journey, I honestly feel the physicality of learning an instrument and potential strain it can put on the body, combined with the immense pressure in an overly competitive industry, can be overwhelming for musicians, therefore making good mental and physical health essential to thrive as a musician long-term. This is something I have come to realise over the past few years and has resulted in developing a passion for good nutritious food, finding fun ways to exercise (something I honestly never thought I would enjoy!) and taking more consideration for my health and well-being.

This blog is a way for me to combine these passions: to document my journey into a music career and understanding the industry; my love for food and cooking through recipes, good finds and experiences; my growing relationship with exercise through enjoying and continuing to learn about strength training, yoga and finding new ways to keep active; and learning how all these aspects interlink, having an effect on each other and benefiting both my career and well-being, plus anything that interests me along the way. My aim is to create a space to share no-nonsense, authentic content and snippets of my thoughts, learnings and life with you in the hope that you find this blog informative, interesting, relatable and worth coming back for more.
